One of the major issues our society needs to tackle is the carbon emission footprint, and cities are a driving force, as recent studies show that the 100 highest-emitting urban areas account for 18 percent of the global carbon footprint. A situation that needs urgent attention, fortunately, the rise of the Internet of Things device deployment is helping to attain sufficient data to act upon this problem.

Unfortunately for the digital revolution, known as Industry 4.0, in essence the IoT devices deployment is giving rise to certain issues too. Actuating on the carbon footprint, and thus, forcing research and development, as our Internet of Everything Corp Eden System, to look for answers to provide a sustainable IoT deployment.

Subsequently, this will help to accelerate the decrease of the carbon emissions of cities around the world. Heat, reach, and power are the three limiting factors for the IoT devices deployment, and its root comes through a centralized web infrastructure. Within this centralized network, Cloud Services are storing, processing, and analyzing IoT, and this cloud service is evidencing certain vulnerabilities to produce optimized IoT workflow.

What vulnerabilities exist in the current Cloud Service?

What Internet of Everything Corp’s tech team observed was the centralized nature of the Cloud Service. A situation that adds to the Heat | Reach | Power issue and other problems in the form of data security and real-time data capturing. When we understood that these vulnerabilities came through the centralized nature of the Cloud Service we started to work on what we call our Eden System, an Informed Infrastructure that is based on a decentralized network.

Achieving this groundbreaking technology, the Eden System provides a network driven by a sustainable computing AI (Artificial Intelligence), that works at the edge. Giving the IoT devices deployment an infrastructure that offers:

· Security at quantum computing level.
· Real-time data to information.
· Well-designed Edge computing platform.

This technology is providing a real breakthrough that can curate the huge data that is being created by the IoT devices. Helping to analyze the data, transform it into information and do it at each specific location without needing to send it to a center to be analyzed. An amazing feat that is possible due to the Internet of Everything approach, which acts not only on the devices, but on four basics: people, process, data, and things.

A holistic approach, enabling communication between all the components that result in refined data to information, giving actionable insights. Having this network in motion eliminates the tedious and dangerous movement of data from the location, to a cloud service (server center), and back again to the initial location.

Why tedious and dangerous?

The necessity to send data to server centers is tedious when thinking about Smart Cities and the data circulating in them:

· Traffic management.
· Administrative.
· Energy and consumption.
· Emergency alerts.
· Healthcare systems.

Data created by these types of city services need to provide real-time data collection and also be data to information processed. In this way, the professionals can actuate when it is required, and obtain useful information that helps them work efficiently. Centralized networks cannot assure a 24/7 basis real-time data nor D2I refinement.

Our Eden System can work on the edge, inputting data to information on a real-time basis and 24/7. Meaning, its autonomous distributed computing power filters the data and validates it through quantum-safe blockchains using polymorphic keys. Bringing us to the next factor, the dangerous aspect of centralized networks.

Centralized infrastructures are naturally vulnerable to cyberattacks because as they are a monolithic network, cybercriminals and cyberterrorists can focus their efforts on one central attacking point. As such, they are capable of four basic threats:

· DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) — Involves cyber-extortionists using a network of infected computers to send an overwhelming flood of messages to a service or infrastructure, which effectively takes it out of service until you pay the cyber-extortionist to stop messaging.
· Malware — A common cyberattack where malware (normally malicious software) executes unauthorized actions on the victim’s system. The malicious software (a.k.a. virus) encompasses many specific types of attacks such as ransomware, spyware, command and control, and more.
· Ransomware — Is the art of tricking an employee or user into clicking on a link or file within a message, activating the ransomware. Which spreads throughout the network, encrypting servers and data, making applications and files inaccessible.
· Phishing — A type of social engineering attack often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers. It occurs when an attacker, masquerading as a trusted entity, dupes a victim into opening an email, instant message, or text message to trick them into clicking a malicious link.

All these problems and threats that come with a centralized solution for smart cities are unacceptable. It becomes in the long-run an unsustainable solution, that can create havoc and produce late and unreadable data, that will only hinder the progress of the project.

The benefits of IoE Corp’s Eden System for Smart Cities

Internet of Everything Corp’s Eden System allows Smart Cities to become sustainable through our human-first technology, giving the city a voice. A voice that can be recognized by all stakeholders and offering D2I that is usable by them, and ignites a secure and private communication network.

At a more technical level, our programming language keeps costs and energy consumption to bare minimums, which contributes to lowering the carbon emission footprint. All this comes down to presenting breakthrough technology able to accelerate the IoT devices deployment inside sustainable grounds. In turn, IoT devices deployment will actuate on the patterns that cause the highest CO2 emissions in cities to reduce them.

This creates a safe place from which to harvest the D2I and begin to perform changes in cities towards the reduction of carbon emissions. Another important benefit that makes our Eden System a better option, is the scalability aspect, as there is no need to deploy in the initial stages all the city’s necessities. Making the technology cost-efficient because the economical investment doesn’t have to be massive.

An important factor to consider, even more so, when taking into account the social, economical, and living standards that the recent pandemic has brought on the whole world. Therefore, a city deploying the Eden System, can start with critical necessities, and add to these throughout the course of the project. Our solutions cover an ample array of industry verticals that are encompassed in a city, such as:

· Aerospace and defense.
· Automotive.
· Infrastructure.
· Retail.
· Energy and utilities.
· Government.
· Healthcare.
· Oil and gas.
· Real estate.
· Construction.

A flexible approach that is designed to offer curated solutions to specific city needs, inside the Eden System, that works on the IoE. Supplying IoT the capacity to connect and communicate securely, through the four pillars of IoE — People | Process | Data | Things.

IoE Corp’s Eden System use case

The above translates into an Eden System solution that foremost strives to seamlessly add itself to the city’s network. In this sense, traffic management, which is one of the major culprits of the carbon footprint, works as an autonomous decentralized network. Programmed and analyzed by sustainable AI computing and data to information stored within quantum-safe blockchains accessed with polymorphic keys (one-time use).

Providing IoT devices a fast and secure path on which to process data, communicate to the professionals, and in addition, reconfigure traffic lighting according to the real-time necessities. An intelligent operation capable of reacting to high-density traffic flux, acting in real-time, and even predicting future traffic requirements. As well as other traffic management issues like parking, public transport, and roadworks optimization, to keep the flow of traffic, which in turn, lowers carbon emissions.

A compilation of breakthroughs in technology to satisfy the ever-growing obstacles cities are having and will have to tackle, in the search for a Smart City becoming a sustainable asset. An urgency that has its path written down, becoming a decentralized technological hub giving citizens a voice through which to actively better its City.

Eden System functional technicalities?

The Eden System Internet of Everything Corp’s proposal ignites the following advantages throughout the Smart City Sustainability project with these technical benefits:

-> Agile service creation and deployment: Only the addition to a normal container deployment is the Service Manifest generation.
-> Continuous development, integration, and deployment: Provides for reliable and frequent depo build and deployment with quick and efficient rollbacks (due to depos immutability).
-> Dev and Ops separation of concerns: Create service depo’s at build/release time rather than deployment time, thereby decoupling services from infrastructure.
-> Observability not only cluster information and metrics: Also application health and other signals.
-> Environmental consistency across development, testing, and production: Runs the same on a laptop as it does in the wild.
-> Cloud and OS distribution’s portability: Runs on Linux, BSD, on-premises, on public clouds, and anywhere else.
-> Service-centric management: Raises the level of abstraction from running an OS on virtual hardware to running a service on a Decentralized network.
-> Loosely coupled, distributed, elastic, liberated micro-services: Applications are broken into smaller, independent pieces and can be deployed and managed dynamically — not a monolithic stack running on one big single-purpose machine.
-> Resource isolation: Give a predictable service performance.
-> Resource utilization: Produces high efficiency and density.

The above benefits come through by running Eden on a decentralized model based on scalable device clustering. Where it is easy to add new devices as nodes and make it possible for any device to contribute computing resources over an intelligent mesh network, so that computing can happen where it is needed and close to where it will be used.

We then developed quantum-safe tunnels using polymorphic encryption keys and used a blockchain with consensus to verify the data moved between the nodes over the tunnels, thus creating trusted data walled gardens. The orchestration of computing and storage is done via service manifests that describe services rules, policies, and logic.

The underlying orchestration mechanics is managed by an autonomous knowledge-based AI using network consensus over the blockchain as a deciding mechanism. The cluster topography is dynamically updated by the orchestration to fit the current workload. Eden System service depos are generated and deployed similarly to container images; the depos are MPI cluster enabled from start.

In conclusion, IoE Corp Eden System is designed to bring to the City a platform that is autonomous, flexible, safe, secure, scalable, and cost-efficient.

· Eden System — A decentralized, autonomous, portable, secure, virtual infrastructure for managing clustered workloads over depos (decentralized pods) and services that facilitates both declarative configuration and automation.
